A pair of carbon fiber poles weighs about 12 to 18 ounces (about 0.3-0.5 kg). A good carbon fiber rod can withstand longitudinal pressure well (because the direction of force is the same as the direction of fiber lay). But for lateral force, the carbon fiber bearing force is not very good. If the fibers are worn, or if the resin fatigues due to prolonged stress, the rod can break.
